Fishery cooperatives play an important role in organising fishing communities, supporting aquaculture and improving market access for fish producers. In Uttar Pradesh, the state’s rivers, reservoirs, ponds and other inland water resources provide opportunities for fisheries-based livelihoods and cooperative enterprise. These societies can help members access inputs, credit, fish production facilities, marketing channels and collective services, depending on their activities and infrastructure.
