Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh government has announced plans to expand cooperative credit infrastructure by establishing cooperative credit societies under all Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) and Kapu welfare corporations in the state.
The proposed initiative, outlined by Minister for Backward Classes and EWS Welfare S. Savita, seeks to replicate the cooperative credit model currently operational for the Brahmin community. The move is aimed at strengthening access to institutional finance and promoting entrepreneurship among economically disadvantaged social groups.
According to the minister, the state’s objective is to encourage at least one entrepreneur in every household. As part of this approach, members of EWS communities are expected to receive priority support in Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) parks being developed across Assembly constituencies.
The announcement was made during a review meeting held at the state secretariat with chairpersons and directors of EWS and Kapu welfare corporations. The meeting focused on assessing the implementation of ongoing welfare schemes and gathering feedback from community representatives to improve outreach and effectiveness.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment to inclusive development, the minister said the cooperative credit expansion would support economic empowerment of several communities, including Brahmin, Arya Vysya, Kamma, Reddy, Kshatriya, Kapu and other economically backward groups. The proposed cooperative credit societies are expected to play a role in enhancing financial inclusion, supporting small businesses, and aligning welfare initiatives with the broader goals of cooperative-led economic growth in Andhra Pradesh.
