Date: 3-5 December, 2025
Time: Full day
Location: Murcia, Spain
Organizer: UN Inter-Agency Task Force on Social and Solidarity Economy (UNTFSSE)
Brief Details:
The 5th Technical Symposium of the UN Inter-Agency Task Force on Social and Solidarity Economy (UNTFSSE), chaired by the International Labour Organization (ILO), is scheduled to be held from 3 to 5 December 2025 in Murcia, designated as Spain’s Social Economy Capital for 2025.
Spain continues to demonstrate strong global leadership in promoting the Social and Solidarity Economy (SSE). The country has also co-sponsored two UN General Assembly resolutions on SSE for sustainable development, adopted in 2023 and 2024.
This year’s symposium coincides with the 2nd UN International Year of Cooperatives, adding further significance to the event.
The gathering aims to highlight Spain’s contributions to the SSE, provide Members and Observers an opportunity to learn from the country’s extensive experience — particularly the vibrant ecosystem in Murcia — and reinforce the UNTFSSE’s role as a key platform for knowledge sharing and policy dialogue. It will also facilitate early discussions on priorities that may contribute to the UN Secretary-General’s upcoming report on the SSE.
The symposium is being co-organized by:
- International Labour Organization (ILO), as Chair & Secretariat of the UNTFSSE
- Ministry of Labour and Social Economy of Spain (Ministerio de Trabajo y Economía Social)
- Government of the Region of Murcia
- Government of the Municipality of Murcia
- Spanish Confederation of Social Economy Enterprises (CEPES)
- Union of Worker Cooperatives of the Region of Murcia (Ucomur)
