In a significant move to uphold governance standards in cooperatives, the Board of Directors of the Chandigarh State Cooperative Bank Ltd. has officially removed Kamal Kant Sharma from the position of elected Director with immediate effect after he failed to attend three consecutive board meetings without providing any explanation.
The decision was taken during the board meeting held on April 28, 2025, which saw the participation of nine directors. The action came under the purview of Registered Bye-Law No. 36, which allows for removal of a board member in case of unexcused absences from three consecutive meetings.
Sharma failed to attend three successive board meetings—on January 22, February 10, and March 13, 2025—despite receiving formal notices dated January 7, January 24, and March 5, 2025, respectively. His absences, without any valid explanation, were duly recorded in the official minutes of the Board.
“In light of Shri Kamal Kant Sharma’s failure to attend three consecutive board meetings without any justified reason, the Board, through Resolution No. 6(i), resolved to terminate his directorship,” stated Anuradha S. Chagti, Managing Director of the Bank, in a communication to the Registrar of Cooperative Societies, UT Chandigarh.
The decision was taken in full compliance with the Bank’s Registered Bye-laws, ensuring procedural transparency and reinforcing institutional discipline.
