Is Amul planning to takeover Sanchi Dairy of Madhya Pradesh? This question gains significance as Sanchi milk brand holds a similar level of familiarity and emotion in Madhya Pradesh as Nandini has in Karnataka.
The question has again started doing the rounds after a news report that the BJP led MP Government wants to adopt the Gujarat- based Amul-like model for Sanchi in MP. However, it is said that the decision on whether Amul will support Sanchi in expanding its presence in Madhya Pradesh or opt for a takeover will be made shortly after the Lok Sabha polls.
The MP officials though view a possible association with Amul as a boon for dairy farmers in the state and expressed strong possibility of Amul’s role in Madhya Pradesh to benefit milk producers very shortly.
Over last few months, several rounds of meetings have taken place between the animal husbandry department and Amul. As per news reports, Amul has expressed its intent to take over and merge Sanchi with Amul. However, the government is treading cautiously, keeping the politically charged Amul vs. Nandini battle in mind in Karnataka during last year’s assembly polls.
Earlier in January this year, MP Chief Minister Mohan Yadav participated in a joint meeting between Sanchi and Amul aimed at ensuring the procurement of milk from Madhya Pradesh’s dairy producers and securing fair pricing for their milk. This meeting had then continued late into the night, exploring various possibilities.
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav had then emphasized the need to develop a roadmap for collective engagement between milk federations and unions of Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat. The focus was on enhancing milk collection, quality control, processing, marketing, capacity building, training, human resources, and welfare schemes tailored to benefit dairy farmers and strengthen the cooperative system.
Sanchi, managed by the Madhya Pradesh State Cooperative Dairy Federation, is renowned for its range of dairy products, including milk, milk products, and sweets, making it one of Madhya Pradesh’s most recognizable brands.
