At the recent Golden Jubilee celebration of the Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speech resonated with a vision for a self-reliant Bharat, fueled by the remarkable journey of Amul, a symbol of resilience, prosperity and progress.

The Prime Minister began by acknowledging the collective efforts that have transformed a humble sapling planted by the villages of Gujarat into the magnificent banyan tree that is Amul today. With branches stretching across the nation and beyond, Amul stands as a testament to the power of public participation, trust, and empowerment of farmers. Modi lauded the invaluable contribution of not just the farmers but also the unsung heroes of the dairy sector – the livestock, whose role is integral to its success.

He said, “Amul has become the symbol of the strength of the Pashupalaks of India”.

Reflecting on Bharat’s post-independence journey, Modi emphasized that amidst numerous brands, none shines quite like Amul – Amul jaisa koi nahi. It embodies the ethos of progress, modernity, and tradition, serving as an inspiration for a self-reliant Bharat. With its products reaching over 50 countries and a formidable network comprising thousands of milk cooperative groups, Amul’s scale of operation is awe-inspiring. Modi credited the organization’s success to the power of organization and cooperation among small-scale livestock rearers.

Highlighting the pivotal role of women in Bharat’s dairy sector, Modi said, “the real backbone of India’s dairy sector is Nari Shakti”. He underscored the fact that nearly 70 percent of the sector’s workforce comprises mothers, sisters, and daughters. Their unwavering dedication and hard work have been instrumental in Amul’s success story. As Bharat strides towards Women-Led Development, the dairy sector stands as a beacon of inspiration, prompting the government’s commitment to bolstering the economic empowerment of women across the country.

Modi outlined comprehensive measures aimed at transforming the rural economy, including initiatives to support small farmers, enhance livestock health, and promote sustainable agriculture practices. From providing financial assistance to introducing modern technologies, the government’s focus on rural development is unwavering.

Addressing challenges such as water scarcity, Modi reiterated the government’s commitment to preventing crises through initiatives like the construction of Amrit Sarovars and promoting modern irrigation techniques. Furthermore, efforts to harness renewable energy sources and utilize organic fertilizers underscore the government’s commitment to sustainable agricultural practices.

Emphasizing the importance of cooperation in rural development, Modi reminded the establishment of a separate Ministry of Cooperation and its initiatives to support cooperative societies across sectors. With substantial investments in modernizing infrastructure related to animal husbandry and dairy production, the government aims to propel Bharat towards becoming a global leader in the dairy industry.

In conclusion, Modi urged stakeholders to leave with renewed resolutions, reaffirming their commitment to Amul’s journey towards excellence. As Bharat aims to become a developed nation by its hundredth year of independence, Amul’s legacy of resilience and progress will continue to inspire generations. With unwavering government support, the journey towards a self-reliant Bharat is well underway, fueled by the spirit of cooperation, innovation, and empowerment.
