Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government has proposed a series of targeted financial allocations for the cooperative sector in its Supplementary Budget for 2025–26, with a strong focus on green energy adoption, capacity building and technology-driven governance.
The budgetary proposals underline the Yogi Adityanath government’s intent to position cooperatives as a key pillar of rural development, institutional self-reliance, and economic empowerment, particularly at the grassroots level.
Solar Rooftop Push for Cooperative Institutions
One of the notable announcements in the supplementary budget is an additional provision of ₹20 crore for the installation of solar rooftop systems on government, semi-government, and B-PACS (Primary Agricultural Credit Societies) buildings.
The initiative is expected to help cooperative institutions lower recurring electricity costs while aligning their operations with the state’s broader renewable energy and sustainability goals.
Strengthening Administrative and Mobility Infrastructure
To improve operational efficiency within the Cooperation Department, the government has proposed an allocation of ₹2.19 crore for strengthening vehicle services. Officials say this move will support faster field operations, inspections, and improved monitoring of cooperative activities across districts.
In addition, the Uttar Pradesh Cooperative Service Board, Lucknow, has been earmarked for an additional ₹46 lakh to meet standard expenditure requirements and support administrative functions.
Focus on Training, Research, and Digital Transparency
Capacity building and institutional strengthening also feature prominently in the supplementary budget. A grant of ₹1.50 crore has been proposed for the Cooperative Research and Training Institute, aimed at enhancing training programmes, skill development, and research for cooperative personnel.
Further, the government has allocated ₹1 crore for the creation of a comprehensive digital database of cooperative societies in the state. This initiative is expected to improve transparency, enable better policy targeting, and strengthen the implementation and monitoring of cooperative schemes.
Towards Modern and Self-Reliant Cooperatives
Officials indicate that the combined impact of these provisions will support technological upgradation, administrative efficiency, and financial sustainability within the cooperative ecosystem. The supplementary budget is being viewed as a step towards building modern, accountable, and development-oriented cooperatives that can respond effectively to the needs of rural and semi-urban Uttar Pradesh.
