With the objective to strengthen the cooperative movement at the grassroots level, Tripura’s Minister for Industry and Commerce, Santana Chakma, chaired a preparatory meeting in Dhalai district ahead of the 72nd All India Cooperative Week celebrations scheduled from November 14 to 20, 2025.
The meeting brought together senior officials, district administrators, and representatives of cooperative societies to finalise arrangements for the state-level celebration. Discussions focused on ensuring wider participation of primary cooperative societies, planning awareness programmes, and highlighting the success stories of Tripura’s cooperative initiatives.
Minister Santana Chakma emphasised that the cooperative model remains a vital tool for rural development, women empowerment, and inclusive economic growth. She urged local bodies and officials to make the upcoming week-long event a platform to showcase the role of cooperatives in improving livelihoods across sectors such as agriculture, handloom, dairy, credit, and small-scale industries.
Key decisions taken during the meeting included:
- Organising seminars, exhibitions, and cultural events to promote cooperative awareness.
- Recognising high-performing cooperative societies with state-level awards.
- Encouraging participation from Self-Help Groups (SHGs), tribal cooperatives, and women-led enterprises.
- Strengthening district-level outreach to boost youth involvement in the cooperative movement.
- Coordinating with the Tripura State Cooperative Union and Registrar of Cooperative Societies for smooth execution.
Officials were directed to complete all logistical preparations — including venue setup, publicity campaigns, and coordination with block-level units. The minister also called for special emphasis on showcasing Tripura’s cooperative best practices, particularly in tribal and rural areas.
The upcoming 72nd All India Cooperative Week, set for 14-20 November 2025, is being celebrated under the theme “Cooperatives as Vehicles for Atmanirbhar Bharat.”
This theme underscores the vital role of cooperative societies in advancing the vision of a self-reliant India (Atmanirbhar Bharat) by anchoring economic growth in inclusive, people-centric institutions.
For Tripura, the event represents an opportunity to reaffirm its commitment to the cooperative model as a cornerstone of inclusive and sustainable development.
