The Assam Regional Office of NABARD convened a regional conclave to strengthen the cooperative ecosystem and align it with the State’s Atmanirbhar Assam initiative. The event was organised as part of the 72nd All India Cooperative Week and in the run-up to the 2025 International Year of Cooperatives, themed “Cooperatives as Vehicles for Atmanirbhar Bharat.”
Senior policymakers, cooperative leaders, bankers, and development practitioners participated in the discussions. Assam’s Minister for Cooperation Jogen Mohan highlighted key milestones, including near-complete implementation of the PACS computerisation project, the establishment of 416 new Multipurpose Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (MPACS), and the rollout of a major grain storage programme through cooperatives.
NABARD officials reiterated the institution’s commitment to empowering rural cooperatives through technological upgrading, capacity-building and targeted financial support. A knowledge booklet titled “Empowering Rural Cooperatives – A Reference on MPACS Development” was released to guide cooperative stakeholders on strengthening grassroots institutions.
The conclave also recognized the winners of the Sahakar Debate and Sahakar Quest Quiz, and featured a puppet show themed on the Seven Principles of Cooperation. Panel discussions explored opportunities for cooperative entrepreneurship and member-driven growth.
The event collectively mapped a cooperative-led development roadmap for Assam, reinforcing the vision of achieving rural prosperity under the vision of “Sahakar se Samriddhi”.
