Wayanad, Kerala – Following the catastrophic landslides triggered by relentless rainfall in Wayanad, Kerala, the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) swiftly mobilized resources to assist the region’s beleaguered dairy sector. The disaster has wreaked havoc on the local dairy industry, impacting over 7,000 animals, destroying more than 1,000 hectares of fodder, and resulting in a daily milk production deficit of over 20,000 litres.
In response to this urgent crisis, NDDB has allocated ₹1 crore to provide Total Mixed Ration (TMR) and silage, crucial for maintaining dairy operations. These supplies are being distributed through the Malabar Regional Co-operative Milk Producers’ Union Limited (MRCMPU), ensuring that the most affected farmers receive the necessary support.
The NDDB team has been actively involved in facilitating the production and distribution of these supplies. They have conducted numerous meetings with local dairy farmers, offering practical guidance and demonstrations on effective feeding techniques. This hands-on approach aims to stabilize milk production and set the stage for a sustainable recovery.
NDDB’s intervention not only addresses immediate needs but also lays the foundation for long-term recovery and growth in Wayanad’s dairy sector.
