Agartala: The Tripura State Cooperative Supply and Marketing Federation Ltd. (Tripura MARKFED) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bharatiya Beej Sahakari Samiti Limited (BBSSL) to enhance seed quality and improve agricultural productivity across the State. The agreement was formalised at MARKFED’s Head Office in the presence of senior officials and Board members.
Dr. Omveer Singh, Advisor, BBSSL, signed the MoU on behalf of the cooperative, while Shri Jogesh Reang, Additional Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Tripura, and Managing Director of MARKFED, represented the Federation.
Addressing the gathering, MARKFED Chairman Shri Avijit Deb noted that the signing coincided with MARKFED’s Annual General Meeting, marking an auspicious milestone for the cooperative sector in the State. He emphasised that the collaboration would support farmers through improved access to certified, high-quality seeds.
Dr. Omveer Singh highlighted that BBSSL is a Union Cabinet–approved multi-state cooperative promoted by IFFCO, KRIBHCO, NAFED, NCDC and NDDB. He said the organisation is focused on strengthening the seed sector, particularly in conserving traditional and heritage crop varieties important to Tripura.
Later, Dr. Singh met Shri Dasharath Debbarma, IAS, Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Tripura, who assured full support for BBSSL’s activities in the State.
The MoU aims to improve seed availability, enhance crop productivity and promote conservation of indigenous varieties through a cooperative-led framework. Recently Banas Dairy signed a MoU with Bharatiya Beej Sahakari Samiti Ltd. (BBSSL) to create a structured, cooperative-led value chain for disease-free potato seed production.
